In spite of personal crises and tragedies for Kanye West and Amy Winehouse in 2007, today's Grammy nominations may offer some solace as their musical achievements are certainly lauded.

Nominations were announced today in Los Angeles for the 50th Annual Grammy Awards and Kanye leads the list of nominees with 8 nods, while Winehouse follows with six. She captured nominations in all four top Grammy categories: Record of the Year, Album of the Year, Song of the Year (a songwriter's award), and Best New Artist.

Many artists recieved multiple nominations - The Foo Fighters, Jay-Z, Timbaland, Justin Timberlake, and T-Pain all have 5 nods.

T.I. got nominated for Best Rap Solo Performance; Best Rap Song; and Best Rap Album for T.I. vs. T.I.P..

Besides "Rehab,"other Record of the Year candidates included Beyonce's "Irreplaceable," The Foo Fighter's "The Pretender," Rihanna's "Umbrella" and "What Goes Around Comes Around" by Justin Timberlake. "Irreplaceable" also gets a nod for Song of the Year, which credits the songwriter. This brings Atlanta transplant Ne-Yo up to 4 nods. "Umbrella" is nominated as well, which gives Terius "The Dream" Nash his first Grammy nod. Keyshia Cole is up for Best Contemporary R&B Album. Akon also recieved 4 nods.

West's nominations dominate the rap categories, with nominations for the Best Rap album and double nominations in the Best Rap Song category - with both "Can't Tell Me Nothing" and "Good Life" competing for the award. Graduation is also in competition with Amy Winehouse's Back To Black, the Foo Fighters' Echoes, Silence, Patience & Grace, Vince Gill's These Days and Herbie Hancock's River: The Joni Letters in the Album of the Year race.

Noticably absent from the Grammy Noms list are super-producer Polow Da Don, who produced smash hits for Fergie ("London Bridge" and many others on album), Ciara ("Promise"), Mary J. Blige ("Runaway Love"), Ludacris, Pussycat Dolls ("Buttons"), Rich Boy ("Throw Some D's"), and more. Also absent from the nods was Sugarland, who most recently performed with Beyonce at the American Music Awards.

The 50th Annual Grammy Awards will be handed out on February 10, 2008 at Los Angeles' Staples Center. For a full list of nominations visit grammy.com.
