Posted by DJ Plan.B on Wednesday, May 21, 2008 , under , , |

Nas released a statement regarding the change of his album name from N*gger to NAS:

"It's important to me that this album gets to the fans," said Nas. "It's been a long time coming. I want my fans to know that creatively and lyrically, they can expect the same content and the same messages. It's that important. The streets have been waiting for this for a long time. The people will always know what the real title of this album is and what to call it."

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Wednesday, February 13, 2008 , under , , , , |

Check out a convo that me and my co-workers had about the Nas' new album below...no editing here! WARNING as this is an adult conversation.

PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:20:53 PM] http://youtube.com/watch?v=1c2OQUWSQUE (click on the link to check out the VIDEO)
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:21:16 PM] We did somewhat....I LOVE IT because it starts DIALOGUE on the issue whether you agree or not...
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:22:06 PM] I understand the genius behind it
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:22:11 PM] I still don't understand his explanation.
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:22:16 PM] exactly
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:22:32 PM] I guess I'll have to wait for the CD download
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:22:38 PM] he's saying "ya'll have no idea who the real niggers are in 2008"
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:22:47 PM] if you dont get it now
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:22:50 PM] well controversy ALONE sells but since Nas is certainly a musical prodigy, I am sure the music will match/exceed the controversy
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:22:54 PM] the CD will nto help you
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:23:13 PM] Then what's the point?
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:23:18 PM] the have nots are the new niggers
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:23:39 PM] its a time piece
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:23:43 PM] in time you will get it
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:24:26 PM] he's trying to dispell the N-word - that's brillant - everybody's a N....a - white people, black, chinese, blue people - if he comes out with that message and dispells the word - he'd done something a lot of never had the platform, no how or forum to do - Bravo!!!
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:26:04 PM] I was watching Scarborough (I think) when I got home lastnight and he (for a quick second) bashed NaS like what the hell is he doing?!?!? but if you go beneath the surface you'll get it
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:26:09 PM] what did I tell y'all months ago...a word is only hurtful if its INTENT is hurtful
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:26:17 PM] it's not just the word he displaying
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:26:44 PM] we cannot BAN LANGUAGE as the NAACP tried to do because a word can hurt...you CHANGE THE DEFNITION so its sting is removed!
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:26:54 PM] whats funny though is that the reporter couldn't come back with a followup after he broke it down (a little)
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:27:39 PM] She was expecting some street "nigga shit", but he blew her mind
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:27:43 PM] or was it that she didn't understand it?
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:27:54 PM] it wasn't what she expected
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:27:57 PM] exactly...that's what a NAS offers: BRILLIANCE
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:28:00 PM] he made it perfectly clear
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:28:21 PM] if he would have had "Victim" on his shirt would you have gotten it then?
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:28:24 PM] this isn't just some MARKETING scheme here...he is trying to affect the landscape positively by airing out america's dirty laundry
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:28:41 PM] what he said
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:31:36 PM] I'm riding with NaS
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:31:48 PM] me too
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:32:07 PM] Im gonna find that John Lennon song too
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:32:59 PM] please
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:36:04 PM] good stuff - he's the Rap O'bama - Nas for 2008'
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:36:19 PM] there ya go!!!
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:36:33 PM] I like Obama but he's scared to be NaS
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:36:53 PM] Nas is the Ross pero
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:37:24 PM] lol
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:37:40 PM] naw...don't do Nas like that Mr. Gomez!!!
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:37:46 PM] think about it
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:37:57 PM] He's like the Langston Hughes or Frederick Douglass
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:37:58 PM] Ross could give a flying F what you thought about him
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:38:07 PM] but he spoke the real
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:38:08 PM] but he's a real historian rapper - cant take that from him, especially on the conscious songs he has
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:38:15 PM] Because he is discussing social issues without being too political
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:38:41 PM] Pero (is that how you spell it) wasnt a politician
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 3:39:00 PM] Perot
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:39:07 PM] yeah
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:39:16 PM] Nasir Perot
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:41:56 PM] like Obama's campaign "Yes We Can" - Nas wants to get masses of all cultures to say the "N Word" - once the outlet has been open to saying it - the word is then dispelled - let the media attack it - then its dispelled - hope he offers something good behind it
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:50:54 PM] So you're saying NAS is changing the word Nigger but you don't know what exactly is behind it?
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 3:51:05 PM] Is that right?
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:51:59 PM] im not saying that he is changing the word (only webster can do that) he is trying to show the true meaning these days
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:52:24 PM] is changing and dispelling the same meaning? Can somebody help me out
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:52:45 PM] disspell is to get rid of
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:53:46 PM] 1. rid mind of something: to rid somebody's mind of a thought or an idea, especially an erroneous one
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:53:55 PM] encarta
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:55:22 PM] so he says in the clip that the plight of issues are not just blacks now but their now whites, and other cultures. Minding the thought or idea that we're all in the same boat - we're all the N.Word?
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:58:23 PM] The muslims call them the 85% (Deaf, Dumb and Blind) NaS calls them Niggers
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:58:27 PM] think about it
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 3:59:56 PM] If you thought the Millenium started on Jan 1 2000, If you bought duct tape after 9/11, if you thought WMD's were in Iraq then you my friend are a Nigger
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 3:59:58 PM] i like the notion - it just throughs a word mindful from the derivitive back at the derivitive - where did N-Word come from to begin with?
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:01:26 PM] When the slaves came over and had dark skins the white didnt know what to call them. The closest thing they had was Negro (spanish for black) and it evolved into NIgger
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 4:04:56 PM] Negro means black in spanish. They called them Nigger b/c nigger means: inferior and ignorant and contemptible. Anything bad or ugly that you can think of becomes or equate to a nigger. That's where the word comes from. Now that's why Older Generations of blacks have an issue with the word b/c of the offensiveness of the word.
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:06:50 PM] They called them Nigger b/c nigger means: inferior and ignorant and contemptible. Thats what Webster says, but in the beginning it meant Blackie (or the likes)
PERSON 2 [2/12/2008 4:08:25 PM] Right, the color is black in spanish
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 4:09:11 PM] Now lets analyze the history that both of you mentioned - would'nt it be brilliant to let the originator of the N-word know who is the true meaning of just that. Once minds are opened - the N-word will finally dispell all myths of who truly holds value to it.
PERSON 3 [2/12/2008 4:09:56 PM] We're finally breaking the Willie Lynch thought-like mentally - its okay to talk against something. Especially in these days
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 4:14:01 PM] exactly...
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:16:08 PM] it's an uphill battle
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:16:10 PM] though
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:16:44 PM] the media is gonna use its power it has over Niggers to try to dead this thing and sell it off as non sense
PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 4:17:17 PM] exactly...they wanted Nas to say something ignorant and silly to make him out to be a buffoon
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:17:47 PM] go back up to my post where I said he through her off
PERSON 1 [2/12/2008 4:18:26 PM] she was like "What the hell?" say what Nigger?PERSON 4 [2/12/2008 4:18:35 PM] exactly....
