VIBE.COM presents BUN B's 1st INTERVIEW SINCE THE PASSING OF PIMP C

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Friday, December 7, 2007 , under , , , |

RIP PIMP C 1973-2007

"I know we're in the era of 'pause' and 'no homo' and all that. But if you really love your homie, don't feel like you can't tell him you love him. Because when things happen, you're going to wish you had said it."
Check out VIBE.COM's interview with Bun B. This is a really great interview. Here is an excerpt below:
VIBE: What memory of Pimp C stands out the most to you?
BUN B: So many changes and phases of life. I think on a good day, on a great day, I couldn't point my finger at one thing. So many different memories: The day we signed, our first video, the first time we heard ourselves on the radio. So many different things. Most of my greatest moments in life, my greatest achievements, came standing right next to him, you know? So it's hard to pinpoint any one thing. So many different moments.
How did it feel seeing him for the first time after he was released from prison in 2005?
Man. UGK was at a place where everything he wanted it to be was finally getting there. Everything he wanted to get from it, he was about to receive. The love, the admiration and respect - not just from fans but also from peers and even journalists. And people understanding what he was trying to impress upon people, what he represented and where he represented it from and just how we lived and who we are as people. And I was just so happy that he was able to come back home and experience different things. I didn't want all the fun to be gone before he had a chance to have them.

BREAKING NEWS: TMZ.COM REPORTS PIMP C FOUND DEAD

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Tuesday, December 4, 2007 , under , , , |

TMZ.COM is reporting that Pimp C, real name Chad Butler, who, along with rapper Bun B, comprise critically acclaimed duo UGK (Underground Kingz), was found dead this morning in his Hollywood hotel room. He was 33.
According to the website, "L.A. County Fire responded to a 911 call at the Mondrian Hotel, located on trendy Sunset Strip in Hollywood. They arrived to his sixth floor hotel room to find him dead in bed."

UGK gained some crossover appeal after appearing on the Jay-Z track "Big Pimpin'" in 2000, and most recently with Outkast on the song "International Player's Anthem (I Choose You)," from the duo's latest album, titled UNDERGROUND KINGZ. Pimp C had just performed with fellow rapper Too Short at the "House of Blues" in L.A. on Saturday night.
Pimp C also found himself in a quagmire recently as comments from a controversial interview in Ozone Magazine forced him to have to clarify himself to local radio stations (in Atlanta) as he seemed to dis the city of Atlanta and resident rapper Young Jeezy. Jeezy dismissed the situation and there was no beef.
UGK had most recently won BEST RAP GROUP honors at the 2007 Dirty Awards in Atlanta, though only Bun B was present to recieve the honor.

The Education of Kanye West

Posted by Jason Dinsmore on Monday, October 15, 2007 , under , , , |

At the 2007 BET Hip Hop Awards, Kanye West was a winner in two categories best live performance and hip-hop video. It was reported that after West got his trophy for best hip-hop video, he said he thought the video for UGK's "International Players," featuring OutKast, should have been chosen over his."I didn't deserve this award above them. They do instead of me," said West, who isn't typically known for being the non-arrogant type. But Big Boi of OutKast kept it completely 100 with West by giving him the award back saying, "You worked too hard for this. No, you deserve it."
Sounds quite different coming from the man that let the world know how Bush really feels about us, and the man that'll more than let you know when the award "givers" are wrong and Kanye is right! Either way, it's a definite upgrade...his fiance must be proud! Ok, everybody's proud!!!
