Atlanta rapper Carlos "Shawty Lo" Walker will be participating in the American Diabetes Step Out and Walk to Fight Diabetes, where he will serve as team captain of the Diabetes Destroyers. The event takes place on Saturday, September 20th at Historic Grant Park in downtown Atlanta. Step Out is the ADA's signature fundraising event that raises funds to find a cure for diabetes. The ADA will also have a Health & Wellness Festival, a high-traffic, interactive arena with sponsor and exhibitor booths that provide information, products and services for children and adults affected by diabetes. Throughout t he event, children of all ages can have fun in the Kid Zone.
Shawty Lo was diagnosed with diabetes in 2001 and in spite of his diagnosis, continues to maintain good health while balancing his rigorous music and entertainment career through proper diet and exercise. Shawty Lo hopes that by sharing his story, which he blogged about on Vibe.com and his myspace page (myspace.com/therealshawtylo), he will inspire others who struggle with the disease, as well as raise awareness of its dangerous effects, especially among the African-American and Latino communities.
"Anything I can do to help raise awareness about diabetes, I will be there," says Lo. "Everybody knows at least one person that has it, so it’s like when we participate in events, walks and things of that nature, we’re really helping somebody we care about, as well as ourselves because you never know when or how it can affect you."

The lane just keeps getting wider for Atlanta, or should I say Bankhead rapper Shawty Lo. At Monday night's Ozone Awards, held in Houston, Lo was crowned "Breakthrough Artist of the Year", beating other rising artists Gorilla Zoe, Soulja Boy, Rocko, and Flo Rida. Along with grabbing the award, Lo also performed a medley of hits including, "Dun Dun", "Dey Know", and "Foolish".
The night received various reviews, with most of the negative coming directly from Houston artists, but that certainly wasn't the case for Shawty Lo. When asked about his win, he replied "It was an honor just to be nominated but to win is a good feeling and to win for Breakthrough Artist is a blessing because I feel like I did just that this past year. I also really appreciate the fans for supporting me through it all and I also thank God for allowing me to keep doing what I love to do." Lo was also nominated for four other awards including "Album of the Year".

D4L/Asylum Records rapper Shawty Lo recently shot a star studded video for the remix to his new hit single, "Foolish" featuring DJ Khaled, Jim Jones, Birdman and Rick Ross in Miami, FL. The video, directed and co-directed by President Thomas Forbes (Dorian Forbes) and Johnnie Cabbell of Hitt Afta Hitt Entertainment respectively, also featured cameos by BET comic and Atlanta's own Shawty Shawty and members of Shawty Lo's D4L camp.
In addition to consistently touring in support of his album Units In The City, Shawty Lo will have a personal blog on www.vibe.com and is also gearing up for Atlanta's Hot 107.9's 13th Annual Birthday Bash concert June 14th, where he will share the stage with a host of artists including Young Jeezy, Plies, Webbie, TI, Soulja Boy and Rocko.

Rumors are that Shawty Lo missed several shows and appearances that were scheduled but canceled for Mr. Bankhead. Several rumors are swirling around as to what the official reason was...
Well now the latest word on the street is Shawty's blood sugar is not goog. Mr. Dunn Dunn himself is dealing with diabetes flare ups. Apparently the rapper has had to be hospitalized for the past 2 weeks for the condition. This seems to be an easy mistake for Lo because being on the road it becomes very tiring. It is hard to keep track of the days and to even eat right. Stay up Shawty Lo.

BRiSON was on location representing The Source and Down Magazines, so big ups to ChiQ, Hawk, and J.Mill! The party was definitely jumping, with a line that remained heavy until after 2:00AM; I have to shout out Tamiko...you did your thing on this one!
