BRiSON BANGERS: CD RELEASES - NE-YO, RAPHAEL SAADIQ, NELLY

Posted by Jason Dinsmore on Tuesday, September 16, 2008 , under , , , |

It's a super fly week for BANGiNG BRiSON CD releases! I'm sure the ladies are lined up at the music stores ready to get their R&B and hip hop fix from 3 guys that are no stragers to the album game. Raphael Saadiq is best known for his work with Tony Tony Tone, but also found stardom in his group Lucy Pearl working with artists like Dawn Lewis and Joi. Ne-Yo needs no introduction! He's managed to win over a slew of ladies, most of which love his mellow dramatic stage performances. And of course the last artist jumped on the scene with his "Midwest Swing" and has continued to do his thing every since. Make sure you check out Nelly's new CD to see if he's gone all the way back to his rapping roots, or if a certain female entertainer has him still singing his heart out.
You know your favorite BRiSON crew loves to give you something special, so visit one of the dopes sites early today if you're a true Nelly fan...and don't say we never gave you anything!!!

PREViEW: NE-YO "YEAR OF THE GENTLEMAN"

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Monday, September 15, 2008 , under , , |

Tomorrow, Ne-Yo will release is 3rd album on Def Jam, titled "Year of the Gentleman." Can we stop speculating on this man's sexuality and actually focus on the music? I don't believe it's any of our business unless we are personally involved with him intimately, right? The name of the track below is called, "Lie to Me" and is supposed to be part of the album. After really enjoying his first single "Closer," I was pleased that he is willing to take risks and not keep on re-hashing the same formula. Support this artist by getting his album in stores tomorrow!

TREY SONGZ & J.HOLiDAY (WE THiNK) CONCERT

Posted by Jason Dinsmore on Tuesday, March 18, 2008 , under , , , , |

On last Thursady, ladies young and old, gathered inside of the newly renovated Dreamz ATL nightclub for what was supposed to be The Dream, J.Holiday, and Trey Songz concert; at least that's what the advertisement that I have sitting next to me reads. However, at about midnight (or later), Trey Songz finally did come out and give an amazing performance. We did dip a little early (2:00 AM), but the concert was a win win for us and Trey; I wasn't a fan and he definitely won me over...stay tuned to BRiSON later in the week for exclusive video footage of Trey performing.

Now moving on to the other performers slated to appear... Reports vary, but one source claimed that Trey was the only (major) artist to hit the stage that night, but I was able to hunt down a few pictures of a tardy J.Holiday (peep http://www.freddyo.com/). Maybe he got caught up in the BED, BED, BED, and ran a little late. Maybe he'll have a shot next time at winning me over, but until then...

And then there's The Dream...I really don't have a bunch negative to say, but this was a huge disappointment for the BRiSON Boyz; he was the reason we went! We'll catch him next time too...and yes, we're still The Dream fans!!!
Also spotted at the concert was the cast of College Hill Atlanta, Ne-Yo, 107.9 & v103 Radio Personalities, Jazze Pha, and more...

ATLANTANS REP HARD AT THE 2008 GRAMMY AWARDS

Posted by Jason Dinsmore on Friday, February 8, 2008 , under , , , , , , , |

It's a shame that the number of Grammy nods doesn't dictate where the actual ceremony is held, if that was the case, Atlanta would definitely be the spot for the 50th annual Grammy Awards taking place this weekend in L.A. Check out the ATL artists (some native and others new) that will be repping hard on Sunday.

The list doesn't stop here, be looking for mega-producers DJ Toomp and C. "Sticky"Stewart to also be repping hard for the A in the Record of the Year and Album of the Year categories. Also shout outs to Gnarles Barkley and Outkast, they are definitely nominated as well. For a complete list of this year's nominations visit http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/50th_Annual_Grammy_Awards

Ne-Yo Sues R. Kelly Promoter Over Tour Firing

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Thursday, January 3, 2008 , under , |

R&B sensation Ne-Yo sued the promoter of R. Kelly's tour for firing him after two shows as the opening act for Kelly because the audience and the critics liked him better, court papers obtained on Wednesday show.

Ne-Yo, whose real name is Shaffer Smith, and Compound Touring Inc. filed the suit Monday in Los Angeles Superior Court against Georgia-based Rowe Entertainment Inc., alleging breach of contract and violation of the right of publicity.

Compound Touring and Smith are seeking unspecified damages, but the suit maintains he was to be paid $785,000 for 25 shows opening for Kelly's "Double-Up Tour" that began Nov. 14 and is still owed $735,000.

Compound Touring, based in Los Angeles, provides the services of Ne-Yo for concert tours.

Smith was allowed to perform during the Nov. 14 and 15 tour dates, then was fired prior to the scheduled Nov. 19 show, according to the suit.

"Plaintiffs ... allege ... that an unknown representative of R. Kelly urged Rowe to terminate Smith from the tour given the audience's and critics' more favorable reaction to Smith than the reaction to R. Kelly," the suit states.

Compound Touring spent "substantial monies in preparation for the tour and turned down other touring and performance opportunities for Smith in reliance on Rowe's agreement that Smith would perform on the tour," according to the suit.

More on this to come...

BREAKING NEWS: NE-YO GETS DROPPED FROM R.KELLY TOUR

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Tuesday, November 20, 2007 , under , , |

Check out this statement from Ne-Yo's publicist:

Yesterday, Shaffer Smith aka Ne-Yo was informed that he was being dropped from the rest of the R Kelly tour after delivering two sensational performances. Entertainment reporters, music critics, bloggers, fans, and concert goers all agreed that Ne-Yo's performances brought the heat; but maybe it brought too much heat.

"He's written hit songs for Beyonce "Irreplaceable" and Rihanna "Unfaithful" (spending a combined 19 weeks at #1 on the Hot 100), said Tango, Ne-Yo's business partner and manager. He's written songs slated to be on Whitney Houston, Celine Dion, Lionel Richie, and Enrique Iglesias' new albums. In a recent article in Ebony Magazine, the king of pop, Michael Jackson, referred to him as one of the artists that impresses him most. The fans were really feeling his performances. He's good; maybe he's too good – that's the problem."

It seems like déjà vu – didn't R Kelly have drama on his last tour. R Kelly's camp sited the lack of a signed contract as the reason for removing Ne-Yo from the line up.

"I don't understand their actions because I was rehearsing, doing media, promoting the tour, and performing, said Ne-Yo. In my opinion, I was doing everything possible to make the tour a success. I love being on stage in front of fans because of the immediate feedback you get. You know right away if they are feeling you; and they were really feeling our show."

Ne-Yo expressed genuine concern regarding not having the opportunity to complete the tour. He wanted all of his fans and supporters to be able to see him live. "To my fans and ticket holders – I apologize if you are disappointed."

So, who was it? Many reports surfaced after the first tour stop in Columbus, GA, that Keyshia Cole rent on a "diva rant" about how she did not want to have to open for Ne-Yo on the tour and we all can remember R. Kelly's last tour (Best of Both Worlds II) where Jay-Z left the tour due to "issues" with Kells and his camp.

Only time will tell...
