Posted by Jason Dinsmore on Wednesday, April 11, 2007 , under , , |

On this day, 126 years ago, black women’s lives were forever changed, well the collegiate driven women. This was the day that the doors of SPELMAN COLLEGE were first opened. Founded by the Rockerfellers, Spelman is one of the 5 schools that makes up The Atlanta University Center (the most popular being Clark Atlanta University, Morehouse College, and Spelman). Notable Spelman Alumnae include, Alice Walker, Keisha Knight-Pulliam, Rolanda Watts, Shaun Robinson, Bernice King, and a host of others.

Most recently added to the Spelman Roster for next year is the late, great Gerald LeVert’s daughter, Carlysia. Congratulations on your recent acceptance to this fine institution of higher learning! Spelman is currently ranked in the top 75 of the nation’s liberal arts colleges & is the only HBCU to make the list.

-2/3 of Bri’Son members attended and graduated from the AUC…so Bri’Son had to BIG UP on this one!
