ATLANTANS DOMiNATE BiLLBOARD THiS WEEK

Billboard magazine’s Hot 100 chart reads like a who's who in Atlanta this week; R&B superstar Usher’s “Love In This Club,” featuring rapper Young Jeezy and produced by consistent hitmaker Polow Da Don has made rare long jump from #51 to #1 on the singles chart.

The song is now the first single from Usher’s June release — “Here I Stand” — is also SoundScan’s top digital track, as well as iTunes’ #1 during the first week of its release. That makes Usher’s 8th #1 single.

And, to boot, pop queen Janet Jackson’s new CD “Discipline” sold more than 181, 075 copies its first week, rocketing it to the top of The Billboard 200 albums chart. The last time Jackson did those kind of SoundScan numbers was her “All For You” album released in May of 2001.

WTF: WINEHOUSE TO PERFORM VIA SATELLITE @ GRAMMY'S

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Friday, February 8, 2008 , under , , , , |

Billboard.com confirmed that "Amy Winehouse will perform during Sunday's Grammy Awards via satellite from a London studio, organizers announced today (Feb. 8)."

"I'm raring to go and really excited to be performing at my first Grammy Awards," Winehouse said in a statement. "I'd like to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of weeks. I'm really sorry I can't be there but I appreciate that I'm being given a second chance via satellite. "The artist, who recently spent time in rehab due to drug abuse, was denied a visa to travel to the Los Angeles ceremony by the American Embassy in London.

What a double-standard we have in our society where average working joe's who abuse drugs are fired and removed forcibly from their employment but a musician known to be addicted to illegal drugs is given the opportunity to peform at the Grammys. Its sad because it shows that we value the dollar above all else, even human life. After the example that Amy has set over the past year, is this an artist we want in the spotlight?

I guess if there's money to be made....

Billboard: Kanye West Tops 50 Cent In First Week Sales Projections

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Wednesday, September 12, 2007 , under , |

According to Billboard, executives with three major record labels, whose job duties include projecting first week scans based on early store sales reports, are projecting that Graduation could tally up sales in the 575,000-700,000 copies range, while Curtis is being projected to come in at the 500,000-600,000 copies range. While these figures are merely estimates of what each album will sell, the actual finalized sales statistics will be computed on Sunday at midnight when the Nielsen SoundScan week officially ends.

The two mega-stars both appeared on BET's "106 And Park" yesterday (September 11) to promote their respective albums. While Kanye won the battle of the surprise guests, bringing Jay-Z out on stage with him after his performance, both premiered new videos - with 50 showing off his clip for his Robin Thicke collaboration "Follow My Lead" and Ye revealing his visual interpretation to his T-Pain collaboration, "The Good Life." T.I. vs TIP - The Struggle

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Saturday, May 5, 2007 , under , |

Billboard Magazine's Hillary Crosley has posted a GREAT interview with rap king T.I. and I strongly suggest you check it out! Also make sure you cop T.I. vs TIP, with features Timbaland, Eminem, Danja Hands, Swizz Beatz, the Runners, Just Blaze, Scott Storch, Akon and Wyclef Jean. TIP even jumps on the boards and does production on the album!!
Below are some the excerpts:
"Much of the public knows T.I. as the ultra-suave, super-stylish rapper, the guy who guests in Justin Timberlake videos and makes the ladies swoon. But hip-hop heads and those closest to T.I. know he's a man fighting demons and thus fighting to hold onto his blistering career momentum."

"'I can never go pop -- the hood is in me,' T.I. says. 'I'm just going for a different audience than I usually target. It's not fair to me to keep talking about the same things. I've gone so far past the hood that I've got to talk about other things.'"

"The only question remaining is whether the rapper will be focused enough to stay out of trouble and promote his album. In other words, all his Grand Hustle signings, his executives at Atlantic and those closest to him will be waiting to see the winner of 'T.I. vs T.I.P.'"

BIG CAT RECORDS' CEO RELEASED - Gucci Mane signs 7-figure deal

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Monday, April 2, 2007 , under , , , , |

If you don't know the name BIG CAT RECORDS, you probably are just more familiar with the artists on the roster. With Gucci Mane ("So Icy," "My Chain," "Pillz," "Freaky Gurl"), Rasheeda ("Bubble Gum" and "Georgia Peach), and Maceo ("Hoe Sit Down" and "Nextel Chirp") lining the ranks, label CEO Marlon Rowe can take his label to the next level.

Well it appears he is poised to do just that, as he brokered a seven-figure deal with Atlantic Records (T.I., B.G.) for Gucci Mane after serving a 14-month sentence in federal prison on a gun charge. "I've had a lot of time to think and I'm a lot wiser now," says Rowe. His label was most recently lauded by Billboard Magazine for being one of the Top 15 R&B and Hip-Hop labels of 2005.
We wish Mr. Rowe and Big Cat Records much success in the future. With several hits on Gucci Mane's latest Hard to Kill, it is no suprise that labels would be breaking their backs to sign such a proven talent. Stay informed as we hope to speak with Gucci, Rasheeda and other Big Cat artists in the very near future.

BILLBOARD - Musiq, Lloyd, Rich Boy on TOP!

Posted by DJ Plan.B on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 , under , , , |

The south still is running it! Thank God this isn't the CIVIL WAR!

While Philly's (shouts out to my home town, Central High baby!!) own Musiq Soulchild scores the top spot, moving 149,000 units of Luvanmusiq, Decatur, GA's own Lloyd claims the #2 spot with his sophmore set, Street Love. He moved 144,000 (special number, so expect BIG things from him) units, far greater than the 67,000 units he moved of his debut album Southside. Also representing the south (Alabama stand up!) is Rich Boy, whose self-titled debut moved a strong 112,000 units to claim #3 and Tennessee's own 8Ball & MJG moved 50,000 units to land at #8 for their latest, Ridin' High.
