I saw this story on the local news in Dallas, and asked myself WTF are these White people mad about? They called the guy "Unpatriotic" for his statement, and went to tripping hard on this Dude! The comments went as far to say, "If he feels that way, then he shouldn't play ball in America, and get paid American money!" To which I say a BIG, FAT, " Get the F*&K REAL!!!" Is not America the country that allows Freedom of Speech? I understand the root of this firestorm very, VERY well. It is peoples inability, or downright unwillingness to accept the ramifications of America's History of mistreating minorities. Josh Howard's comment wouldn't make much sense or would be intolerable if America was known for treating everybody EQUALLY, and everyone had the SAME rights in this country. But contrary to what White people want to believe, we minorities STILL have a problem with what was done to us in the past, and is STILL being done to us today! Let me be so kind as to give some people a little historical footnote so that they may understand where this guy is coming from. Be it if they were stolen from the beaches and villages of Africa, or sold by other Africans into slavery, the main point is SLAVES weren't given the choice to become slaves!!! So with that being said, let's get to the National Anthem. I'm not sure of the date that it was composed exactly, but what I AM sure about is that when it was composed, BLACK PEOPLE WERE SLAVES!!! Not to mention they had no rights in this country. So, simply put, the National Anthem had NOTHING to do with us! For that matter, it had nothing to do with Native Americans ( People who were here before Europeans supposedly DISCOVERED America), Spanish People ( Who were also here before the Europeans made landfall), and any other minority group you can think of. So, if the man chooses not to acknowledge the National Anthem, can you see why? If you still don't get it, he's protected by his right to Freedom of Speech. Hell, I share the same beliefs on that, and these White people have the nerve to stare at us at these football games for not standing like we stole money from them or something! I mean ready to fight and stuff! These Texas people take the flag, Pledge of Allegiance, National Anthem, and all that shit serious!! Now take a moment and ask yourself, if Black people signed a petition to have OUR ANTHEM "Lift Every Voice and Sing" added to the agenda immediately following the National Anthem do you think THEY would go for that? That would go over as well as an openly gay man joining the Latin Kings or the Gangster Disciples!! Point is, the man has his own beliefs and opinions about this country, and he's not alone. That doesn't make ANYBODY unpatriotic, it just lets them voice their God given right to say how they feel or think about this country, without being judged harshly! Especially if the feelings expressed are justified!
