Comedian/actor Bernie Mac - born Bernard Jeffrey McCollough - died early Saturday morning August 9, 2008 at Northwestern Memorial Hospital. He was 50 years of age. Mac was recovering from pneumonia and was expected to be released soon.

The comedian drew critical and popular acclaim with his Fox television series “The Bernie Mac Show,” which aired more than 100 episodes from 2001 to 2006. The show garnered Golden Globe and Emmy nominations for Mac.

Groundbreaking soul singer and actor Isaac Hayes, who won Grammy awards and an Oscar for the theme from the 1971 action film “Shaft,” and most recently was a regular on the animated South Park series, has died at 65 on Sunday August 10, 2008.

Issac Hayes is coincidentally co-starring in the upcoming movie Soul Men with Bernie Mac.

Both men were an asset to our community and will be missed greatly.
