OFFICIAL: JAY-Z releasing "American Gangster" this year!
Jay-Z has announced that he will release an album full of all new material this November titled "American Gangster," as soon-to-be-released movie with the same title was his inspiration.
American Gangster (the movie) is based on the true story of Frank Lucas, who is played by Denzel Washington. The movie chronicles Lucas rise to dominance over the Harlem drug trade in the streets of New York in 1970 by smuggling heroin into the country using the coffins of Vietnam veterans returning home from the war. The movie is produced by Brian Grazer and directed and produced by Ridley Scott and opens in theaters November 2.
“It was like I was watching the film, and putting it on pause, and giving a back story to the story,” Jay told the New York Times. “Watching that film, it brought back all these memories, it took me back to those emotions.”
The album will feature a variety of producers, including Kanye West, DJ Toomp, and Pharrell Williams.
The album is due in stores November 6 on Def Jam Records.
