Queen Latifah in Hairspray
We caught a premier screening of HAIRSPRAY earlier this week, and to many's surprise, it was actually good. I'm not sure if you checked out the original, but if you didn't you might want to peep this one because the issues faced within the plot are the same ones that many of us face today, racial segregation.
The movie's all star cast includes Jon Travolta, Michelle Pfeiffer, and our cover girl Queen Latifah, playing an extraordinary character, Motormouth Maybelle. You can tell by the name that Motormouth Maybelle would be no joke, but when you add the Queen into the equation it's just a good look all around. The movie was set in the 60's, but Latifah has a rare believability on the big screen that makes you forget what year the movie took place in and possibly evaluate the restraints that are placed on your own personal life. Yes, the Queen, or Dana has a few numbers in the movie, but if you can push past all of the singing, the movie has a message that more than just the BRiSON audience needs to hear (and that alone should make you run and check it out). HAIRSPRAY hits theaters today so make sure you go out support the Queen!!!
